Tuesday 21Jan

I feel a bit like a broken record now.

Today was a lot of the same. Brian did seem very tired today. This is likely because he spent nearly 24 hours on the trach collar yesterday/overnight last night. They switched him back to the ventilator to help give him a bit of a break, but he does tolerate the trach collar very well. They figured he needed a break from the trach collar due to his respiratory rate being elevated, he never did de-stat so that is really incredible.

I did not see him open his eyes at all today, but his nurse said Brian did when the doctors were rounding this morning before we got to the hospital. One thing the doctors do when they are rounding is ask Brian to do simple tasks (squeeze hand, release hand, wiggle toes, thumbs up, open eyes) and see if he does them when asked. Today sounds like that went pretty well and he did follow a few of the commands. I did not get to see it and he did not do this for me later in the day so I don't want to get too excited, but this was so amazing to hear that he at least did it a little bit! One thing I did notice today that was new was he would turn his head and somewhat his body too towards the voices in the room. I have not seen him move his head side to side at all up to this point so this also was an improvement.

I have been tasked with performing some PT for him to help keep his joints lubricated and stretch him out a bit. And he is still so strong. It is almost unbelievable how strong.

Still no update on the LTAC. Just waiting on that still. We should still be moving by the end of the week though, just still not sure the date or the location. As with everything since Brian's accident, it is just a waiting game and it depends on a lot of factors.

Thanks again to everyone for all the positive thoughts and prayers!
