Monday (13Jan) Evening Update

Another short update for tonight. Brian is still scheduled for surgery for tomorrow around noon. His surgery has the potential to be pushed later in the day depending on if any emergent cases come tomorrow. But I will have a surgery update by at least the end of the day tomorrow.

Other than that, he has been doing well today. He has been moving his right arm around A LOT. He was trying to point at things, he was acting like he was scratching (he can't really reach himself at all so he was just doing it to the pillow), and squeezing hands. Hopefully we can start seeing some more movement in his left arm after he gets his surgery. He has been weened off the IV sedation medications. He is on an oral pain medication and another medicine to help keep him calm. These are all positive steps to get him transferred to the next facility so he can heal.

There are 3 requirements for his long term acute care center: he needs to have the trach ventilator, the peg feeding tube, and off any medications via IV. So after tomorrow he will be ready to rock and roll to the next stop (whenever that may be). We are really hoping he can just transfer straight to Craig hospital, but they have a waitlist so Brian may go to an intermediate facility and then transfer to Craig. Craig is one of the top top top hospitals in all of the country for treating brain injuries so that really will be the best place for him.
