Super late night update this evening! 👀
Well, today was day 14. The magic number suggested by the neurology team. And today was the first day that I would say Brian "woke up." I only saw him with his eye open (only one eye today, the left one was still not opening up) for a few minutes, but he followed my voice around the room and did appear to be taking in his surroundings. This was so incredibly exciting and this should continue for longer as the days go on. The trauma team will continue to work with him to continue to evaluate his neurological response, but I am not really sure the amount of rehab that will be done at his current hospital vs the LTAC. Hopefully we can get an update on the LTAC soon to know which facility he will be transferred to and when that will happen.
In other news, he spent the whole day on the trach collar and they were going to try and continue this all night if Brian could tolerate it. It would be so nice for Brian to stay off the ventilator permanently and it seems like he is so close to being able to accomplish this.
I think that is all for today! But super exciting day today with some very amazing progress!
