Saturday 25Jan

Here is a quick Saturday evening update.

Brian was very tired today when we were at the hospital. Lincoln and I were there for most of the afternoon and I saw Brian open his eyes only for a short time (just a few seconds). The previous few das really must have tired him out. So not much to say for today.

However, I want to highlight some of the things I have heard from the trauma team (his main care team) so far throughout Brian's treatment. It feels like we have been in this situation forever and it hasn't even been 3 weeks since Brian's accident which is just batshit to me.

  • Trauma just yesterday said Brian is medically stable and he no longer needs medical intervention. He is in the rehab portion of his recovery. Even with this though, he may end up needing to go back to the hospital and to not be concerned if that happens. This is super common in situations like Brian's.
  • Moving to the LTAC is going to be so beneficial for Brian. There is where they start the various therapies and get him completely off the ventilator.
  • Trauma also mentioned that they consider recovery from 1 year post accident. That means that they will be able to understand the full long term prognosis for Brian at the 1 year anniversary. So he has an entire year (and probably a bit longer) to make his full recovery. So it is important to remember on days like today when he is more tired or seems to be going backwards that it isn't a concern.
