Today's update's a bit delayed, just got caught up at the hospital.
At some point last week Brian bit his tongue with the previous ventilator (if you came and visited you saw him kinda chewing on it) and he now has a pretty significant wound on his tongue. His trauma team is going to come back in sometime today and clean that up with a kind of bedside surgery to help allow it to heal. He is also going to get a CT scan to check his abdomen to make sure everything is okay there digestively. It is common after surgery to see bowel blockages and since Brian can't be up and moving around it's a bit of a bigger concern. The CT scan will happen at some point today, but coordinating with everyone is a bit tricky so it just will take time.
His movement still looks great and his eyes are moving, he does seem a bit more sluggish today, but that is just how healing brains go, sometimes it is one step forward and two steps back (I would not say this is even a step back).
On a bit of a personal note I have a really nice story! So Lincoln is too young to come back to Brian's room, kids have to be over 12 years old. The trauma doctors tend to round pretty regularly about 8 ish. So Lincoln and I have been coming in to the hospital at 7-7:30, Lincoln waits in the waiting room (seriously, he is a rockstar with all of this), and I go back to catch any updates if I can before we have to go to school. So today worked out great and I got to catch the trauma team and went back out with Lincoln. As we were getting ready to walk out, we passed the trauma team in the hall as they were still rounding. I asked Lincoln if he wanted to say hi and he said yes. His trauma doctor (Dr. Omar, gonna shout her out because this was so awesome of her) took the time to say hi to Lincoln and shook his hand. She said they were dad's doctor team and were making sure to take great care of him and also asked Lincoln if he had any questions.
Brian has the best care team around here! He (and we) are all so lucky that he is here with this team!
