It is fitting that today is groundhog day since it feels a bit like I am living the same day over and over. But even with that said, Brian was WAY better today than yesterday. Today it seemed like all of my favorite nurses were working and one of the best was Brian's nurse again today so that helped to make today better too. One of the nurses not working with Brian (but has previously) was asking about Lincoln and I mentioned he was in the waiting room and she went to go and talk to him for a little bit. 🥹 She and the charge both suggested Lincoln come back for a bit today without me even having to ask. Shortly after, Brian had lots of visitors show up so we went to the waiting room so everyone could take turns in there (since they limit visitors to two people at a time) and as we were walking out the nurse that had talked to Lincoln in the waiting room asked if Lincoln wanted a donut! The entire staff is so amazing and have really made our time at this hospital as wonderful as it can be!
The past few evenings I have been asking Brian if he wants me to stay a little longer or if he is ready for me to go home. Usually I get a nod for stay a little longer a few times and then I get a nod when he is ready for me to go home so he can sleep. I have to imagine that him having a bit of control with what is going on around him has to be nice for him.
One final thing for today, shortly after we got to the hospital the night of Brian's accident, I was given his phone, his wallet, and his wedding ring. The EMTs took his ring off when he was brought in and didn't want to put it back on due to any potential for future swelling (and boy did he swell up) and we knew he would also need future surgeries where it would need removed again. I had been wearing it on my necklace to keep it close. Today I asked Brian if he remembered his ring and he nodded, then I asked him if he wanted to put it back on and he nodded to that too. I had asked his nurse this evening if we could put his ring back on and he said that should be fine (Brian should be done with medical procedures and the swelling is gone). It really emotional to see that ring back on his finger.
