Thursday 06Mar

Today was a busy morning for Brian. He had some ADL (assisted daily living) with OT this morning. This is just assessing and helping Brian with some skills involved in daily life. So getting dressed, brushing his teeth, showering, etc. After OT he had speech. In speech today he finished up his initial assessment and has started working on some skills with her. He also had a visit from his neurologist and his neuropsychologist, just to check in on him. We talked with the neurologist about getting his peg removed and he was going to call over to Swedish to get their GI team aware and get Brian on their schedule. Then he ate lunch and took a nice nap. In the afternoon he had some PT. They worked on his balance by having him walk on a treadmill while being harnessed in.

One thing that is hard for Brian when it comes to his safety devices is he is very independent and capable of doing all the skills (he needed very little assistance when working with OT this morning) but he doesn't quite have the impulse control and balance to do them safely yet, and comprehending that is a complex skill. He is frustrated having to use the safety devices (like his lock belts and wheelchair) because he doesn't fully understand that he isn't safe when he is unattended and performing these tasks. That understanding will come as his confusion starts to clear up. He will also be more stable as he continues to work on that with his PT.

And that was about his whole day. After I picked up Lincoln from school, we went to Costco to get Brian some snacks for his room since the bistro at Craig is not always open and he usually gets a bit hungry between lunch and dinner. We got some protein bars, some crackers, and some chips so hopefully those are hits tomorrow. I also had to restock my stash of White Monsters and while I was cutting off the plastic wrapping I accidentally nicked one of the cans with the blade and gave myself a White Monster shower. πŸ™ƒ
