Friday 04Apr - Updated visitor info!

We made it to Fun Friday! Since I am back to work now, I couldn't take Lincoln out for cinnamon rolls, but I did make some for him at home so he could still have his fun Friday breakfast.

Today was a bit of an easier day for Brian. He started out the day today with some ADLs and then had a short break. Often times during these breaks (especially after his ADLs) Brian would go back to bed. His OT really wants Brian to do something to keep himself awake and offered a few suggestions. Last night Lincoln and I went to Barnes & Noble to get Brian some activities that may help. We got him a graphic novel series that he can start, we got him a few simple lego sets, and we also got him a Where's Waldo book (this was actually all Lincoln's idea). Brian also requested we bring in some handheld video games. I brought in all the stuff we bought yesterday as well as my old Gameboy from when I was a kid and Lincoln's Nintendo Switch that he no longer plays with. Hopefully these also get put to good use over the weekend when we can't be there.

Brian had speech after his ADLs (and short break). It was his speech therapists last day today. Brian was very sad to be losing her as his primary speech therapist. Today they worked on sentence building by creating schematics to help represent himself and also they did one for me. Brian suggested all these things to add to the boards. It was very emotional reading these and having Brian be so excited to show me after his session. He also wanted to keep these boards, but he speech therapist needed them back so he had me take a photo and I'm so glad he did.

Then after speech Brian had a break. During his break we talked for a bit, we looked at the stuff I brought in for his breaks, he played the Switch for about 45 seconds, and we did some walking in the halls. Then after the break Brian has ANOTHER speech session. I just really love how much therapy he is receiving every single day! In this session, she was helping Brian better understand that the words coming out aren't the right words. His aphasia has been so interesting to watch because he is incredibly confident that the words he is choosing are in fact the words he wants to choose even when we tell him they aren't quite the right words.

Then we had a lunch break. After lunch we had Brian's OT/PT co-treat. We were hoping to walk to the store, but it was snowing so instead we drove (well his OT drove). We went to Safeway and Brian walked around the store and got all the ingredients he needs for cooking on Monday!

Visitor Info:

So I asked Brian today how he felt about visitors for this weekend. He said for anyone who wants to come to come on by. Lincoln and I are planning to be there around 9:30-12:30 ish tomorrow. We have to leave around 12:30 because he is scheduled for a lacrosse game Saturday. Now if there is too much snow and the game gets cancelled, we will stay longer, but as of right now, I doubt that will happen. Sunday we should be there for most of the day. With that said, anyone can visit Brian at anytime (I don't have to be there, I am just sharing the times in case people want to see me and Lincoln too). It's important to remember that even still, a lot of his talking doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Sometimes you can deduce what he is saying by context, but not always.

I would just request that if Brian asks you to leave, that you respect that, which I know everyone would, but I still just want to mention it.
