Tuesday 22April

 Happy Tuesday!

Today was Brian's final day of inpatient therapy! It's honestly so hard to believe that we are at the end of the inpatient stay. Brian started out his day with some OT. Today she did some work with Brian's right shoulder since he has been cleared for a bit of assistive range. Then she discussed some stuff for us to continue working on at home (and in inpatient). One important thing for us at home is for Brian to safely occupy himself. We have created a list for activities he can do completely by himself and a list of activities he can do with supervision. This is something I think will be our biggest challenge at home. Brian's not the best when he is bored and if he feels like he should be doing something.

Then he had PT. Today in PT he did a cotreat with PT and T. Rec. In this session Brian played some video games (which he requested yesterday) while doing some balance work. He struggled a bit with overstimulation in combination with difficult balance testing but did a good job communicating that was too hard. And that in itself is a massive improvement compared to even a week ago.

Then Brian had speech. In speech today he did a test to show how much he improved throughout his stay at Craig. His score DOUBLED! Phenomenal. This is just one test that he did while in his inpatient stay, but it is so significant that he improved so much on paper. We can also obviously experience the improvement when conversing with him. When we first got to Craig, he made nearly no sense whatsoever the majority of the time. And now we can have entire conversations throughout the day.

We ended the day today with a visit from his psychologist and she mainly highlighted what to expect in the future. Brian is very concerned about going back to work and she helped to highlight how that looks and when it would most likely be appropriate. And it's still not quite yet. It is something that he will work through with his outpatient neuropsychologist.

And we are looking forward to tomorrow when Brian gets officially discharged and we make our way home! We are all very excited for him to be home and also excited to navigate a new situation again.
