Tuesday April 1

Luckily we didn't get tricked today! Brian has always hated April Fools day and pranks so it's good that today was just a normal day in the hospital.

Today Brian started his day with ADLs with one of his OT team. He got up and ready for the day and then ate some breakfast. After that he had speech at 9 where his speech therapist repeated a test she did shortly after Brian admitted to Craig and it is a common test for aphasia. He has improved so much already! He scored significantly higher in several areas and one area he scored 100%! This is such amazing progress and really helps him to understand that the work he is doing at this hospital is helping his brain heal.

After speech we both had PT today. Today I had to participate a lot in his PT session because this was used to train me on keeping Brian safe after he discharges. We worked on some stairs, which Brian definitely has the strength for but he needs help slowing down and help with his balance. This is something that I will definitely have to do since our house has so many stairs so it was really important that I be trained on this. After we did the stairs we also did some walking outside on more uneven ground. Brian did so good, it's almost unbelievable how much his balance has improved over the past few weeks. We walked on a grassy hill forwards, side stepping, and also backwards down the hill. His PT also showed us how to safely do another stretch that we can add to the routine for stretching over the weekend.

Then we had OT where Brian had to build a ladder golf game. He did this totally independently and was able to follow the very limited instructions and put it together. There were a few times that he made a mistake and he saw it and corrected it. That was really great to see. Then after he put it together, we played a couple games which was great to help work his shoulders while he still can.

Then this afternoon Brian had another OT session where we played a poker style game called Black Widow. We have played this quite a few times and it is pretty fun. We will definitely have to have a "Black Widow" night to teach everyone how to play. After that session, he had a supervised exercise time using the recumbent bike machine. And then to end his day he had a session with his manual therapist who worked on his shoulders. She did some stretching and some needling. Brian was complaining a little bit earlier today about his shoulders being in pain. The needling and stretching she did should really help with the pain (as a temporary fix until he can get that surgery).

I hope you all didn't get tricked today!
