Monday 05May

 Happy Monday!

Today was such a good day for Brian. This morning we walked Lincoln to school (its a 2 mile round trip walk) and then he had his first day of outpatient OT and PT. Brian was looking forward to this since his discharge! It was so nice because he's so frustrated with his shoulder restrictions due to the rotator cuff repair. The immobility still will continue for a few more weeks, but his therapists are allowed to do some work on it during the sessions so that he can maintain the mobility in his shoulder, elbow, and wrists.

He saw both OT and PT today. His PT did some work to evaluate Brian's balance with a few simple tests (which he did so well) and then did a few strength evaluations on his legs. He then gave us a few exercises for us to do at home. The Brian had OT. His OT is actually our sister in law which is obviously so amazing and will be so fantastic for his healing. She did some initial evaluations on both arms as well as did some stretching work on his right shoulder. She also gave us some stretches Brian can do alone as well as with some assistance from me.

This is awesome for Brian because we will work together to create a schedule for Brian so he can have his own therapy sessions while at home when we don't have therapy at the clinic/hospital scheduled. By us getting these exercises at home it will help him feel less bored during the day.

Then to end the day today Brian came with me to my Silent Book Club meeting. I host a Silent Book Club chapter in Boulder with my best friend and tonight Brian came to it with me. He started reading The Hunger Games books which he hasn't read the books previously but he's seen the movies. I have been suggesting Brian try reading again while he was in the hospital and also since he's gotten home since it's a calm activity that is very enjoyable and takes a lot of time. Up until now he's been pretty uninterested in reading, but I am hoping this will help hook him a bit and that can be another activity option at home when he gets bored with watching so much TV.
