I decided to switch to weekly updates since there have been several days where I didn't have an update to share but posted something anyway. Plus it seemed to make more sense to do weekly updates since Lincoln started back at school this past week.
We had such a good week this week. On Monday we got the feedback from Brian's cognitive testing! The results were a lot of what we had expected with Brian's injury and what the doctors have been telling us. His most difficult areas are learning and memory with verbal instruction. She gave us some tips to help Brian with this kind of stuff (like giving him a to do list written down vs just saying it). One extremely positive result was Brian passed the cognitive pre-drive assessment. So this means that he will move to the next stages of pre-drive testing. There are several steps to make sure that Brian will be safe when he is driving again, but this is a huge step. He also got cleared cognitively to move to the community reintegration program which will conduct the vocational testing and determine when he can return to work and what types of work he is cleared to return to. There is still a long way to go with both pre-drive and return to work, but it's amazing that we cleared step 1!
Throughout the week Brian also had his OT sessions. She worked with Brian on his shoulder mobility, strength and some cognitive/balance dual tasking. His shoulders are getting so close to back to normal. He is probably about 65% of the way to throwing a baseball again! He's really hoping to be able to return to coaching in the spring and right now it's looking very promising.
Lincoln started school on Wednesday! It's crazy to think we have a fourth grader! So far he really loves his teacher which is awesome. He has always been so lucky with his teachers and seems to always get the best one of the grade! Lincoln wanted to ride his bike to school Thursday and Friday (after Gabe's of course) so he did. He was so excited and it really helped me with work because I had a meeting right at 9 (which is when he starts school). This was his first time riding his new bike that he got for Christmas to school.
This weekend we had a post tournament meeting to discuss what went well in our tournament and how we could improve for next year! That was very exciting because we had such a great time at the tournament so it was all positive and everything for next year was pretty minor (other than making sure the golf course has more carts next year so we can have a full tee sheet). Then today we went to the driving range for a little while and Brian hit some balls. Then Lincoln and Brian did a little putting too. After the driving range, we came home and Brian did some laundry and cleaned off his dresser and his night stand while I did some organizing downstairs and watered my plants.
