Weekly Update 15-21 Sept

Such a good week this week with lots of updates!

The beginning of the week went as our normal weeks go. We had OT where Brian worked on his throwing motion, coordination activities, and some balance work. During these days we also had both the foster puppies and they were the cutest. They really were good puppies that reminded all of us why we enjoy fostering. On Wednesday we had to take the puppies to get fixed. One of the puppies was adopted before we even got her but she had to stay with us until she was fixed. So on Wednesday we only got to take home our little boy pup. I am going to spam in several puppy photos because who doesn't love puppies!

Then on Thursday Brian had his pre-drive assessments at Craig with PT, OT, and Speech. He worked really hard during those assessments and passed!!! And since he passed, he moves on the next step in the pre-drive program which is to get medical clearance from one of the doctors at Craig. Once he gets that, he will move to the behind the wheel testing. The testing for this pre-drive involved Brian driving in a simulator which was really cool to see.

Friday started with Fun Friday breakfast at Gabe's. Brian also had an appointment with the Community Reintegration department who works with patients to help them with return to work assessments and volunteer opportunities. They do also help with the disability benefits and navigating return to work with disability benefits. This appointment was mostly just a meet and greet appointment but it was very nice to have that part of the process started as well. She did say there wouldn't be much progress with her until Brian is approved for driving because typical process for patients they expect to drive again is to get driving first and then return to other activities after that.

Then we spent the weekend at home mostly. We had to take the pup to his adoption event Saturday morning (and he got adopted!!) and then we watched a lot of football. I also spent the weekend doing a lot of work for the golf tournament! A super exciting update on that front, I created a website for us! Here is a link to our new website! https://www.thebirdieinitiative.org/

Registration for our tournament in 2026 will open January 1!
